Criminal Investigation Bureau
More commonly known as a Detective Bureau, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) is comprised of the Adult Section and the Juvenile Section. The Bureau is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations on all reported crimes. In addition to furthering initial reports taken by patrol officers, CIB routinely seeks, gathers and cultivates information regarding unreported criminal activity and prepares same for prosecution.
The Adult Section of the Criminal Investigation Bureau investigates all major crimes committed within the Township of Ocean. The detectives assigned to this unit receive advanced training on a vast variety of topics that will assist them in forwarding investigations that may have previously gone undetected or unsolved. In addition to their primary investigative responsibilities, adult detectives are also responsible for the following:
*Crime Scene Processing
*Quality of Life Issues such as Narcotics and Prostitution
*Terrorism
*Press Releases
*Forfeiture
*Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR)
*Liquor Licenses
*Firearms Background Investigations
The Juvenile Section of the Criminal Investigation Bureau investigates all crimes, and specializes in investigations involving persons under the age of 18. Detectives assigned to this unit received specialized training in juvenile law. In addition to their primary investigative responsibilities, juvenile detectives are also responsible for the following:
*Law Enforcement Against Drugs (L.E.A.D.)
*Liason to the schools
*Underage Drinking
*Megan's Law registry
*Crime Prevention
The business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 11:00pm. In addition, there are two detectives "On Call" 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
